Vehicle Lands On Roof In Turnpike Crash
CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A father and his two sons suffered serious injuries in a violent, one-vehicle crash along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Cranberry Township this afternoon.
The accident happened around noon near the I-79 interchange.
The eastbound lanes of the Turnpike in Cranberry had to be shut down for a medical helicopter to respond to the scene.
According to state police, the man and his two adult sons, from Omaha, Neb., were heading to Reading, Pa., when the crash happened.
State police say they left Omaha Thursday evening and were taking six hour shifts driving, but the father fell asleep behind the wheel.
The car hit a culvert, went airborne and landed on its roof.
Police say the men suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
