Trooper Responding To Turnpike Crash Hospitalized
NEW STANTON (KDKA) -- A state trooper was hospitalized Friday evening after suffering a medical event while responding to a vehicle crash that injured two people along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Westmoreland County.
According to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the trooper suffered a heart attack and was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He was last listed in stable condition.
The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. in New Stanton.
A vehicle traveling westbound reportedly went over an embankment.
Crews had to close down the westbound right lane in that area late Friday night as a result of the crash. But the road has since been reopened.
The Post-Gazette reports the two people who were rescued from the vehicle were also being treated at UPMC Presbyterian for head injuries, which are not life-threatening.
