Surveillance Video Shows Vehicle Crashing Into New Castle Convenience Store
NEW CASTLE (KDKA) -- One person was taken to the hospital after a vehicle crashed into a convenience store in Lawrence County Wednesday evening.
According to emergency dispatchers with the county, it happened around 9:20 p.m. at the Fast Check Food Mart on East Washington Street in New Castle.
Four people were inside the store when the car came crashing in. They were not hurt.
The surveillance video shows two views.
The one from inside the store shows employees going outside to check on a man in a Ford Explorer with his headlights on.
The outside surveillance cameras show the employees pointing at the SUV. As it turns out, there's a man they describe as passed out behind the wheel with the car running.
As the employees head back into the store, the car moves forward and then accelerates into the front of the food mart.
The camera view from inside the store shows employees walking back into the business when the car lunges forward. The employees scramble out of the way.
Several employees, including the store manager, ducked behind the counter.
"The guy, he just took off, went into the store. His car reached the counter," said Sultan Alababseh, the manager of the food mart. "Lucky the counter was solid or he would have been all over us."
No one was seriously injured.
The driver was hospitalized, and then arrested. Store owners are now cleaning up the mess.
The driver was taken to the hospital, but he was not seriously hurt.
