Vegas Sets Odds For Pirates 2014 Win Total

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The Pirates are coming off the most exciting season since 1991, but when it comes to expectations for the 2014 season, Vegas isn't setting their sights too high for the Buccos.

According to the online sports book Bovada, the Pirates win/loss total for this season is set at  83.5, good enough only for third in the NL Central.  Bovada set the St. Louis Cardinals win/loss total at 90.5 and the Cincinnati Reds at 84.5.

Here's how the NL Central stacks up according to Bovada:

  • St. Louis Cardinals 90.5
  • Cincinnati Reds 84.5
  • Pittsburgh Pirates 83.5
  • Milwaukee Brewers 79.5
  • Chicago Cubs 69.5

If Bovada's predictions are correct, the Pirates would miss the playoffs as they'd be behind Division winners in the Los Angeles Dodgers (92.5), St. Louis Cardinals (90.5) and Washington Nationals (88.5) with the wild card spots going to the Atlanta Braves (87.5) and the San Francisco Giants (86.5)

All hope for Pirates fans should not be lost though as General Manager Neal Huntington recently sat down with The FAN's Pirates pre- and post-game show host Dan Zangrilli and talked about the competition in the team's rotation and what that could mean for them this year.
