USA Today MLB Writer Doesn't See Trade Match Between Pirates, D-Backs For Upton
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) -- Bob Nightengale joined Andrew Fillipponi on Sportsradio 93-7 The FAN in Pittsburgh to talk about his conversations with those in the Diamondbacks organization, as well as with Justin Upton's agent regarding a potential trade with the Pirates.
According to Nightengale, the Pirates and Diamondbacks don't match up well for a trade because the Diamondbacks are looking for a third baseman or shortstop, and have little to no interest in Pirates prospect Starling Marte because they have major league ready outfielders in their own minor league system.
In order for a trade for Justin Upton to happen between the Pirates and Diamondbacks, Nightengale says it will take a third team that has interest in acquiring Marte and will give the Diamondbacks what they are looking for.
In the end though, Nightengale just doesn't see a way the two teams will be able to come to an agreement on a trade for Justin Upton.
