US Airways, American Airlines Merger's Effects On Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA)- KDKA's Rob Pratte talks to State Sen. Jay Costa, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, State Rep. Mark Mustio, and a former airline employee about the US Airways and American Airlines merger and its effects on the region.
Forty-year airline employee Les Szell said the merger causes them to decide on only one operation center which American Airlines has a new, large facility in Dallas, Texas. Sen. Costa said that change would be a "dramatic loss" to our region and that the government would have to start looking at new programs and incentives to persuade the airline to stay here and also to draw other companies here.
Fitzgerald said "diversification with the airlines" is the way to go in order to protect airport jobs. Later, Mustio talked about his plans and that he wants this to get under control as soon as possible.
