UPMC And Penguins Team Up For Johnson And Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine Drive-Up Clinic
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Galleria Pittsburgh Mills in Tarentum will be the site of a Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine drive-thru clinic.
This is the only available vaccine that's a single shot.
"A lot of people want the Johnson & Johnson vaccine because it is one shot," says Children's Hospital President Mark Sevco, who is heading UPMC's mass vaccination efforts.
You must have an appointment, and the UPMC staff will be administering the vaccine.
"Quick, efficient, reliable," Sevco says. "Just as effective as Moderna and Pfizer in terms of preventing and illuminating hospitalizations and deaths. So it's really a high-demand vaccine."
This clinic is for adults only. Everyone in priority groups 1A, 1B and 1C are eigibile.
"We'll be vaccinating about 700 individuals per hour," Sevco says.
Children's Hospital, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Allegheny County Health Department, plans to immunize 12,000 people.
"Six-thousand new appointments per day," says Sevco.
Everyone who gets vaccinated must wait in their car for 15 minutes and get checked on by nurses and volunteers.
"It's kind of like the race of vaccine versus the variance, too. We really have to get on this and get folks vaccinated," Sevco said.
The clinic will take place on April 14 and April 15. If you don't get an appointment, you can still register online. That way when availability opens at other sites, you can get scheduled.
