Unresponsive Hill District Infant Rushed To Hospital, Regains Heartbeat
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- An infant was rushed to Children's Hospital from the Hill District Thursday evening after her mother found little girl unresponsive.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 2400-block of Bedford Avenue.
Officials say the mother reported that she left the napping baby with a relative and when she returned a few moments later, she the child was unresponsive.
"I heard my friend crying and when I went over, I seen the baby lying on the couch. And I tried to bring her back, gave her CPR. The baby came back for a little bit," said neighbor Patricia Rogers.
Rogers was the first to start mouth to mouth resuscitation.
According to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials, Pittsburgh Public Housing Authority security officials and first responders also performed CPR on the 3-month-old at the scene.
The baby was rushed to Children's Hospital in critical condition.
"It's just real painful, painful to deal with right now," said Mote Booker, the child's father.
Hospital officials say the child regained a heartbeat.
But the baby girl, 3-month-old Amani, remains on life support.
