Sen. Toomey Weighs In On VA Hospital Scandal, Other Issues
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - During a visit to Pittsburgh, United States Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania visited the Alzheimer Association and KDKA Radio.
KDKA Radio host Mike Pintek asked him hard-hitting questions about problems at the VA, immigration and much more.
Sen. Toomey believes that more information will be needed before he can agree that Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki should be removed over the VA scandal. He calls him a good man who served his country honorably.
"I'm still wrestling with that," said Sen. Toomey. "Gen. Shinseki is a good man. I think he, there's not question he served his country honorably."
The senator adds that there may be a culture at the VA that resulted in the allegations that documents were forged to cover up long wait times for veterans at health centers. He wants the Senate to act on a House passed bill that would give Shinseki authority to fire those responsible.
