Unclaimed Property Auction Could Be Perfect Place To Find A Valentine's Gift

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Valentine's Day is just a couple of weeks away, and this year the State Treasury Department says it can help you find a great gift for your significant other and save you some money.

We're talking about everything from diamond rings to fine art.

Every April 15, the Treasury receives millions of dollars in unclaimed property including jewelry, collectible coins and medals.

They're all kept in a vault, but after exhaustive efforts by Treasury workers to find the owners for three years the items are auctioned off to the highest bidder.

This latest auction comes right in time for Valentine's Day.

Pennsylvania State Treasurer Rob McCord put out a news release this week encouraging shoppers to check out eBay and Morphy's Auction to bid on the unclaimed pieces.

Morphy's Auctions has the higher priced items including designer watches for men and gold and silver coins.

Just in case you were wondering where your money goes, McCord says the proceeds of the auction are maintained for the owner to claim.
