Umberger Signs 5-Year Extension
Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Good news for Plum native R.J. Umberger, who has signed a 5-year contract extension with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The new contract will take him through the 2016-17 season and is reportedly worth $23 million.
The 29-year-old Umberger has 74 goals and 84 assists and has not missed a game with 246 starts since being acquired in a trade with Philadelphia.
In 474 career NHL games, Umberger has scored 123 goals and recorded 151 assists.
The Blue Jackets, who have only made the Stanley Cup playoff once, have now locked up 7 players to long-term deals. Along with Umberger, the Jackets have inked deals with Rick Nash, Jeff Carter, Antoine Vermette, defensemen James Wisniewski, Marc Methot and Fedor Tyutin.
