Two Steelers Taken Off PUP List
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- The Steelers activated veterans Casey Hampton and Rashard Mendenhall from the PUP (physically unable to perform) List, the team announced Friday afternoon.
Hampton is in his 12th season with the Steelers and has played in 157 career games with 146 career starts. A five-time Pro Bowl selection at nose tackle, Hampton was recovering from a knee injury in the off-season.
Mendenhall, now in his fifth year as the Steelers' top running back, was recovering from a knee injury that he suffered in the 2011 regular-season finale at Cleveland. He has two 1,000-yard rushing seasons and has amassed 3,367 yards rushing in his first four seasons.
In his weekly press conference earlier today, Mike Tomlin said only those still on the PUP list have been officially ruled out for Sunday night's preseason home contest against Indianapolis. However, with Mendenhall coming off extended rehab, and Isaac Redman on the mend from a groin injury, novices Baron Batch and Chris Rainey, along with backup Jonathan Dwyer, will get most of the reps in the backfield.
