TV Ratings Show Pens As Most Watched U.S.-Based Team
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It's no secret that sports fans in Pittsburgh love their teams.
A new report shows the Pittsburgh Penguins are the top-ranked United States-based NHL club in local television ratings.
The Sports Business Journal published Nielsen's "State of the Media: Year in Sports 2010" report that shows the Pens as the clear winner.
According to the report, the Penguins had an 8.0 rating on FSN Pittsburgh in 2010. Other teams in the top five were: Buffalo (6.3), Detroit (3.9), Chicago (2.6) and Boston (2.3).
"The loyalty and passion of Penguins fans never cease to amaze us," CEO and President of the Penguins, David Morehouse said in a statement on their official website. "This gives us another opportunity to say thank you to the greatest fans in hockey."
The Penguins have been off since last Tuesday for the NHL All-Star break. They will return to action Tuesday night on the road against the New York Rangers.
