Turbulence, Caused By High Winds, Sickens US Airways Passengers
MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- The high winds caused turbulence that sickened several US Airways passengers on a flight from Phoenix that was diverted before landing in Pittsburgh.
So many people became physically sick on US Airways Flight 632 that they had to remove those passengers while they cleaned the aircraft.
"I have never gotten sick on a flight before and it was the worst flight I have ever been on," Sherrianne Gleason, a passenger, told KDKA-TV after landing at Pittsburgh International Airport.
The winds forced the pilot to land the plane in Columbus, Ohio.
"It started to get a little bumpy, but then when we were definitely ready to touch down, it really got choppy and the pilot had to abort the landing," Bob Slack, another passenger on the flight, said.
"The guy next to me said it was like we were on a jackrabbit," Katie Dingee said. "It was going up and down in continuous drops which were kind of scary because your stomach like flipped a little bit."
A spokesperson for US Airways told KDKA's Kym Gable the winds not only affected this flight, but several others Friday night.
All of the passengers were very complimentary about the pilot and flight crew, saying they were calming and comforting during what they called a crisis situation.
The flight landed in Pittsburgh without incident.
