Truck Spills Concrete On Vanport Bridge In Beaver County
POTTER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A concrete truck spilled some of its load late Tuesday afternoon on the Beaver Valley Expressway in Potter Township and now a man will be cited.
The spill on the Vanport Bridge resulted in a single lane closure as PennDOT crews brought in trucks and other equipment needed to clean up the mess.
The lane closure left westbound traffic at times backed up for miles.
The cement truck operator, Steven James Mitrecic, 29, of Monroeville, will cited for failure to secure the load.
State police say Mitrecic had an outstanding bench warrant in Allegheny County and was taken to the Beaver County Jail.
Angela Bish was driving home with her brother, after going to the mall. She was following the cement truck at the time of the spill.
"I kind of went off to the shoulder as much as I could to avoid – it just looked like gravel and moisture – I saw a cement truck, I told my brother, 'I think there's cement everywhere,'" Bish said.
Her Lexus was damaged by small rocks that were kicked up.
"Just to dings in this car is heartbreaking," she said.
One source told KDKA-TV that the driver of the truck had three days training, and today was only his second day on the job.
The truck was owned by Castle Builders Supply, based in New Castle.
State Police in Beaver are investigating the mishap.
