Trick-Or-Treating Goes On As Scheduled As Manhunt Continues For Police Shooting Suspect
HARMONY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Trick-or-treating went on as scheduled Thursday evening, despite the fact that the man who shot Harmony Township Police Officer Alan Loskoch is still on the loose.
"We talked about it at length this morning," said Ambridge Police Chief Jimmy Mann. "We feel the public is safe. The kids are safe. Our main priority is safety."
However, there was extra protection this year. Chief Mann says both Ambridge and Harmony had increased police patrols, in addition to firefighters who normally patrol. He says Ambridge had eight officers on duty instead of the three it's had in years past.
"It's been very slow, unusually slow," said Tammy Harsch.
She says she hasn't given out nearly as much candy as she normally does and wonders if a gunman being on the loose is the reason why.
"I noticed more parents, too... like couples together. Usually, it's one or the other, but we're seeing more mothers, fathers, everyone together," she said.
Harsch is among a group of neighbors who have put blue lights in their window to support police.
Officer Loskoch was shot in his bulletproof vest early Wednesday, after he spotted a man who appeared to be looking through parked cars.
The bullet came through the windshield of the officer's unmarked car. His vest may have saved his life.
The officer managed to fire at least five shots back. The suspect took off running.
There's a $15,000 reward in the case.
