Trial Continues In Case Of Murdered Elderly Neighbor
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The trial continued Friday as prosecutors try to prove that three family members conspired to kill their elderly neighbor and steal her money.
David J. McClelland is the third family member to be charged in connection to the death of 92-year-old Evelyn Stepko.
His father David A. McClelland pleaded guilty to murder and his stepmother, Diane, was convicted of conspiracy.
In a videotaped interrogation with police, played for the jury late Friday afternoon, David J. McClelland - former police officer - told investigators he thought his father should get the death penalty for his role in Stepko's death.
He also told them his stepmother didn't care about anyone other than herself.
But he was at a loss to explain why he didn't do more to stop his father from stealing from their elderly neighbor.
Stepko was found stabbed to death July 18, 2011 at her home in Coal Center – where she had stashed thousands of dollars.
