Showers, Storms Prompt Watches, Warning Across Area
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Another round of severe weather prompted watches and warnings across the area today.
The National Weather Service has now cancelled a Tornado Watch for several counties, including Armstrong, Cambria, Clarion, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Somerset and Westmoreland.
A tornado warning was issued for Greene, Indiana and Jefferson counties for a brief period of time Thursday afternoon, but has since expired.
Severe Thunderstorm Warnings that were also issued for much of the area earlier in the day have also expired. KDKA's Jon Burnett says the wet weather should be wrapping up tonight.
"Most of the heaviest activity now is well off to our east into central parts of Pennsylvania, that's where the most active weather is and will remain. We'll be out of this showery pattern in the next couple of hours," said Burnett.
The National Weather Service warns that the storms could bring flying debris, damaged roofs and downed trees.
And if a storm should move through, residents are urged to seek shelter.
Meanwhile, the weekend is looking nice.
"As we head into the day [Friday], high pressure builds in, low pressure scoots off the eastern seaboard and departs and leaves us with drier, more comfortable air and some of the best weekend weather in the country," Burnett said.
But the potential for showers and storms returns early next week.
