Pittsburgh has a diverse history of neighborhoods that were once separated by ethnicity. Grocery stores, delis and pubs were the glue that kept these areas rich in culture and traditions. Many Irish pubs still thrive in Pittsburgh and not just on St. Patrick's Day. This list of pubs serves up the best traditional Irish food and drinks in town and features that indefinable Celtic ethos.

East Carson Street in the Southside has hundreds of bars and restaurants. But if you are looking for an authentic Irish Pub look no further than Piper's. Carrying a variety of scotch and beer, the pub has the best variety of authentic Irish and Scottish whiskey. If you are a futbol (soccer) fan, there is no better place to watch a game. Usually opening early for European matches, the most rabid soccer fanatics can be found here. If you go to watch a match, make sure to get there early as seating is at a premium.

In the heart of Southside Works is Claddagh Irish Pub. Ranked the number one Irish Restaurant by Pittsburgh Magazine, it serves probably the best Irish fare in the city. The actual restaurant is a bit larger than your normal 'pub', but provides one of the most rustic interiors in the city. With high ceilings and a private dining facility, patrons find wall-to-wall Irish flair around the bar. There is also a nice patio outside for summertime seating on those cool nights.

Paddy's is located in Carnegie and is one of the older Irish pubs in the area. Started back in 1979 the pub features Irish whiskey, beer and classic Irish food. Featuring live Gaelic music on most Friday's and Saturday's, the pub includes 'Irish Night' on Tuesdays featuring half price drinks after 8p.
