Tony Dungy Is Pleased That 'Steeler Football' Is Back
PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Former NFL head coach and Pittsburgh Steelers Tony Dungy visited with Vinnie & Cook on Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan.
Not only is Dungy pleased to see the Steelers beat the Ravens, he is even more pleased to see how they got the win.
"To beat a contending team, to do it in that fashion, to play 'Steeler football' where the defense was making plays and getting the ball back for the offense," Dungy says. "Running the ball with Le'Veon Bell and getting the energy back in the stadium. To me, I was encouraged as a fan that it looked like 'Steeler football' for the first time in a while."
Le'Veon Bell's efforts paced the Steelers' running game and impressed Dungy greatly.
"Running the ball is definitely going to help that offense," Dungy says. "It's a throwing league now, and you have to throw to win, but you can't totally depend on it. You've got to be able to keep the other team off balance. I thought Bell gave them that yesterday."
Dungy gave current Steelers coach Mike Tomlin his first NFL job, and he has no doubts that Tomlin is still the right man to head the Steelers.
"Mike has had some great players, but getting great players to play well and play together and win is still a special talent," he says. "He's a very, very good coach. When you lose four games in a row, everyone wants to point at the coaching, but they're fortunate to have Mike Tomlin there."
Dungy also shares his surprises around the NFL, and admits how surreal it was to watch Peyton Manning play a game in Indianapolis while wearing a Denver Bronco uniform. Hear the entire interview below!
