Tomlin Talks About Sunday's Win
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- To borrow a classic line from Mike Tomlin, style points didn't matter on Sunday, but the head coach did like some of what he saw in a last-second win over the Philadelphia Eagles at Heinz Field.
Tomlin gave a generally positive assessment of running back Rashard Mendenhall, who got his first taste of action since the end of last season, and scored the Steelers' lone touchdown in a 16-14 victory.
"He's got to be a little bit more ball-secure, but it was a great place to begin," Tomlin said of Mendenhall, who ran for 81 yards on 14 carries. "He not only ran well and hard, and caught the ball, but he was a source of energy for the unit."
Furthermore, he was pleased with the two turnovers, including a critical end zone fumble that kept the Eagles off the board, his defense generated in the first half.
"Sometimes they're just a byproduct of doing what it is you're supposed to do," he said. "Guys were aggressive, they were supposed to be, and they were pursuing the ball."
Tomlin went into greater detail about defending dual-threat quarterback Michael Vick, and about the game's final series, which ended with Shaun Suisham's winning 33-yard field goal:
