Tomlin Doesn't Throw Offense Under Bus After Underwhelming Finish
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- The conflict and subsequent apology from Big Ben to Todd Haley was well documented leading up to Sunday's game against the visiting Bengals. Head coach Mike Tomlin was asked if there was too much of a disconnect lately between QB and OC after his Steelers were knocked out of playoff contention.
"Obviously it wasn't effective for us to win, I'll acknowledge that," Tomlin told 93.7 The Fan's Joe Starkey after Sunday's loss. "But the processes of what we wanted to do, and the ways we went about it early in the season are the same as they are today--of course, with different results.
"We're not looking to make excuses for those results. They are what they are. We've got to coach and play better than what we did."
One of the few positives was the redemption of Rashard Mendenhall, who led the Steelers with 50 yards on 11 carries, and, in the wake of his one-week suspension, was the only effective man in the backfield:

"Neither team ran the ball. It was that type of a football game. It was going to be about the significant plays, and the get-off downs, and they made a few more than we did," Tomlin said.
The Steelers end their 2012 season at Heinz Field against the Browns next Sunday at 1:00 on KDKA-TV.
