Tom Donahoe: Be Patient With Young Talent
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Former Steelers general manager Tom Donahoe joined The Fan Morning Show on Friday to talk about some of the challenges that the Steelers have faced over the past few years, which many believe have stemmed from poor personnel decisions.
Donahoe thinks that it's important for the Steelers to take their time with the young high-round picks that they're hitching their wagons to.
"We live in a now world," Donahoe said. "I think sometimes you have to be patient, as hard as it is to do that, and when you have good football players, and you think they're developing players and they have a chance to get better, you have to be patient with them."
In Donahoe's mind, a big part of that is keeping them on the field.
"The only way that a player can get better is by playing," Donahoe said. "Practice is great, film work is great. That's all part of the development, but guys have to get on the field, and they have to get into the game speed, which is so much different than what you're able to do at practice."
