Toddler Dies After Being Backed Over By Truck
SMICKSBURG (KDKA)- An 18-month-old girl has died after being run over by a truck in her family's driveway in Smicksburg, Indiana County.
It happened around 5 p.m. Thursday at a home on Route 954.
The Indiana County Coroner's report says Martha Byler's father was unloading tools and equipment from the bed of a pickup truck that was driven by another man.
When the driver started to back-up, he heard a thump. When he got out of the truck he discovered Martha unresponsive near the rear of the truck.
She was pronounced dead about an hour and a half after the incident.
Police say the baby's head and chest were crushed.
State Police from Punxsutawney investigated the crash. The manner of death has been ruled accidental.
