Tim Neverett: Off-Season Big For Alvarez
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan) - Pirates broadcaster Tim Neverett joined Colin Dunlap Saturday on Bucco Talk.
They talked about Pedro Alvarez, who is limited to pinch-hitting duty with an injured foot.
"Hopefully, he can help down the stretch in some way, as a pinch-hitter, maybe he'll play first base again this year. I think third base is done for the year for him. The Pirates have not closed the door on him playing at third base in the future, however. I think that the off-season is going to be a big off-season for him in terms of trying to get back to where he was two years ago," Neverett said.
They also discussed the recent trend of teams throwing intentionally at Andrew McCutchen.
"I believe he knows he's going to be a target and I think he is prepared for that," Neverett said. "I don't think it's right. I do think there has to be some protection for players, superstars or not."
