Tigers Outfielder Don Kelly: Brandon Inge Keeps Things Loose
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- Detroit Tigers utilityman, former Pirate, and Pittsburgh native Don Kelly joined Andrew Fillipponi, Colin Dunlap, and Eric Hagman on The Fan Morning Show Monday, with the Pirates set to take on the Tigers in Detroit just hours later.
Kelly joked that he'll be rooting for the Pirates in 158 games this season, because he wants the best for both the Bucs and Tigers.
"Hopefully we can catch them in the World Series," Kelly said.
Kelly is a former teammate of Pirates newcomer Brandon Inge, and Kelly said that Inge wearing a full-body hockey outfit in the clubhouse this past week wasn't the first instance of him doing so.
"Brandon is one of the best teammates I've ever played with," Kelly said. "He keeps things loose. You never know what he's going to show up in. One year, we had a rain delay, and all of a sudden Inge comes rollerblading out in full goalie gear. He keeps everything loose, and has a good time playing the game."
Kelly, who played at Point Park University, told the guys that a tournament in Petersburg, Va. helped him get on scout's radars.
"If you can play, they're going to find you," Kelly said. "I always knew I had the confidence, but it reinforced that, that yeah, you can play with these guys."
When asked who he would be pulling for in a Penguins vs. Red Wings Stanley Cup Final, Kelly paused for a good few seconds before picking a side.
"Man, that's tough," Kelly said. "But, bleed black and gold man."
