Power Restored In Cranberry Twp.
CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A copper wire theft knocked out power for thousands of people in Cranberry Township.
According to First Energy, someone broke into a substation on Route 19 between Cranberry and Zelienople and stole all the copper ground wires.
The suspect had to get through a large fence with barbed wire to access the copper wire.
First Energy said it was an extremely dangerous theft.
Service is not expected to be restored until late Wednesday.
Cranberry Township Police are investigating and are checking local hospitals for any burn patients.
This is the fourth copper theft in a week from First Energy. Two others were In Zelienople, while the other was in Evans City.
Water and ice were offered for customers affected by the power outage at Giant Eagle stores in Cranberry and Seven Fields.
Power has been restored to the majority of customers.
