Storm Leaves Behind Damage, Thousands Without Power
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Tens of thousands of people were without power after a severe storm rolled through Pittsburgh Tuesday night.
Officials with Duquesne Light initially reported that 13,000 people were without power and crews were assessing the damage and "making repairs as quickly and safely as possible."
However, as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, officials said slightly less customers, about 3,900 people, were still without power. The expect to restore power to all customers by 2 p.m. Thursday.
West Penn Power reports about 7,100 customers without power -- primarily in Westmoreland County.
Central Electric Cooperative also said that 3,620 customers in Butler County were without power after the storm.
No word yet on when power will be fully restored.
Officials also remind the public not to touch and to stay away from downed wires.
Flash flooding led to a water rescue in O'Hara Township. Four people were rescued from two cars near the intersection of Freeport Road and Powers Run Road.
Rescue boats were brought in and the four people were safely brought to dry land.
There are several reports of downed trees in the area as well. In Zelienople, one tree was split in half around midnight on West Beaver Street.
In Highland Park, a 40-foot tree was blocking a portion of Sheraden Avenue Wednesday morning.
