Thousands Flock To Downtown For Pride Celebration, Arts Festival
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Pirates game on the North Shore was not the only thing going on in Pittsburgh Saturday night.
The 2012 Pride in the Street Festival was held on Liberty Avenue downtown between 9th and 10th Streets.
The headlining act for the event was singer/songwriter Melissa Etheridge.
The 10-day Pittsburgh Pride Celebration is part of an effort to increase awareness and understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
A record attendance was expected for this year's event.
Also going on downtown was the final weekend for the Three Rivers Arts Festival.
Thousands have flooded Gateway Center and Point State Park to check out what vendors are offering, listen to live music and enjoy funnel cakes and other culinary delights.
The festival ends Sunday at 8 p.m.
