Thousands Celebrate Fourth Of July In Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – From sea to shining sea, Americans are celebrating the nation's 235th birthday.

In Pittsburgh, that means boat races, concerts, baseball games, food and fireworks.

Patriotic hearts beat true to the red, white and blue with 12-year-old Andy Fugh setting the pace in Point State Park.

Californians, Linden and Amy, students from San Jose, were having too much fun.

"I love it! Oh my God there's so much to do here. Good friends - good food what else could be better!"

Land lubbers wriggled their toes in the sand at Beach 'Burgh. There's a sand sculpture featuring American icons like Rosie the Riveter, Marilyn, Andy Warhol and Andrew Carnegie, Grant Woods and Norman Rockwell beneath the city skyline.

Those who feel the need for speed are waiting for the F-2 powerboat finals.

"It's our second year here and we're going to come back every year they have it," an onlooker said.

It was a great day for a game of catch or just plain catching some rays. The Meier family from Bedford staked out their territory.

"We wanted to see the fireworks," Kathleen Meier said. "We wanted to come down just to see all the things that are happening. We're excited to be here today."
