This Week In Pitt Panthers Athletics
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Pitt Panthers men's basketball team beat West Virginia on Monday and will now face another Big East rival, No. 9 Villanova on the road on Saturday, Feb. 12.
The women's basketball team also beat West Virginia this past Saturday and will host the University of South Florida on Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Petersen Events Center with tip-off at 2:15 p.m.
The undefeated and 23rd ranked wrestling team will look to continue their incredible season when they head to Clarion on Thursday.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Panthers play at No. 9 Villanova on Saturday, Feb. 12. Tipoff for that contest is at 9 p.m. on ESPN. Villanova's Pavilion is the site of the ESPN College Game Day show, which begins at 11 a.m. that morning on ESPN. Pitt enters its week in first place in the Big East standings with a 9-1 record. The 9-1 record ties Pitt's best start in Big East play matching its start in 2006-07. Pitt is 21-2 overall.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Panthers entertain USF on Saturday, Feb. 12 at the Petersen Events Center. The contest tips at 2:15 p.m. and can be seen on Pitt Panthers Television on The Comcast Network. Pitt is coming off a 60-53 victory at No. 14 West Virginia on Saturday. Senior guard Taneisha Harrison tallied a career-best 30 points, highlighted by a 5-of-6 performance from three-point territory. As a result, Harrison was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll.
GYMNASTICS
After two weeks on the road, the Pitt gymnastics team returns home for a Saturday, Feb. 12 meeting with EAGL foe Maryland at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House. The Panthers are coming off a meet in which they scored their highest mark of the season (193.475) at Penn State in a quad meet with the Nittany Lions, West Virginia and Bridgeport. Junior Amy Varela placed third on the uneven bars with a season-high score of 9.825, just 0.025 off her career-high mark.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
Pitt's divers travel to Louisville, Ky. this weekend, for the Big East Diving Championships. The event will be held from Friday, Feb. 11 through Sunday, Feb. 13 at the University of Louisville. Senior Collin Forner leads the men after earning All-Big East honors last year. On the women's side, senior Mallory Mullady was named the team's Most Valuable Diver a season ago, and holds the school 1M diving record.
TRACK AND FIELD
The Pitt track and field teams travel to Akron, Ohio to compete in the two-day Akron Invitational, starting Friday, Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. The meet continues on Saturday, Feb. 13. Live results and video streaming will be available on GoZips.com. Last week, junior Miya Johnson recorded a career-best in the 500M dash at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, while the men's 4x400 relay team earned a first-place performance at the same event.
WRESTLING
The No. 23-ranked wrestling team looks to stay undefeated in EWL conference action with two dual meets this week. On Thursday, Feb. 10, the Panthers travel to Clarion for a 7 p.m. matchup. The team returns home for its final home match of the season when it takes on Cleveland State on Friday, Feb. 11. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. with senior recognition honors beforehand.
PANTHERS IN THE COMMUNITY
Pitt's men's soccer team will host Panther PAWS at Trees Hall on Saturday, Feb. 5. The two-hour program begins at 10 a.m.
