Pittsburgh (KDKA) - This week in Pitt Panthers athletics, the men's basketball team look to rebound from their loss to Notre Dame when they face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Saturday. The game will start at 8 p.m. and can be heard on 93.7 The FAN or see on ESPN2.
The women's basketball team will be in action tonight against Big East rival Syracuse at the Carrier Dome, tip-off is at 7 p.m.
Although it is the end of January, the Panthers' women's tennis team will open their spring season this week with a couple matches on the road.

THIS WEEK IN PANTHERS ATHLETICS
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Pitt wraps up a feverish road slate with its ninth road game in the last 11 outings on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at Syracuse. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at the Carrier Dome. Then, on Saturday, Jan. 29, the Panthers return home to the Petersen Events Center to host Marquette at 2 p.m. for Girl Scout Day. The game will be broadcast on Pitt Panthers Television on The Comcast Network. Pitt dropped a 66-46 hard-fought decision at No. 2/2 Connecticut on Saturday. Senior Taneisha Harrison scored in double-figures for the 10th straight game with a team-high 16 points while Chelsea Cole chipped in her BIG EAST best ninth double-double of the season (10 points, 12 rebounds).
GYMNASTICS
The Panthers travel for the first time this season as they face No. 18 West Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. for a tri-meet with the Mountaineers and Rutgers in an EAGL showdown. Pitt (2-1, 0-1 EAGL) recorded its first loss of the season Sunday evening in a back-and-forth bout to league foe New Hampshire (193.750-192.650). Alicia Talucci captured the beam title with a 9.800 on the night and finished second on the vault with the same score.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
The Pitt swimming and diving team returns to Trees Pool on Saturday, Jan. 29, as the squad hosts ACC foe Virginia. Diving begins at 11 a.m., while the swimming events are slated for a noon start. Nearly 50 Panthers have earned berths in the Big East Championship meet, while senior Andrzej Dubiel holds top-five times in two events for the men, and senior Laura Barnes leads the women with two top-10 times. Additionally, seniors Colin Forner, Zane McLain, Mallory Mullady and Morgan Speece have qualified in the diving events.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
The Pitt women's tennis team opens its spring season with a couple matches this week. On Wednesday, Pitt meets Penn State at 4 p.m. in State College, Pa. The Panthers also travel to Buffalo, N.Y., where they face Big East foe St. John's on Saturday, Jan. 29, prior to playing host Buffalo on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 12:30 p.m. During the fall tournament schedule, freshman Jocelyn Lu made an immediate impact advancing to the finals at two events, while senior Elizabeth Adams is currently fifth overall on Pitt's all-time wins list.
TRACK AND FIELD
The Pitt track and field team travels to State College, Pa. on Friday, Jan. 28 to compete in the Penn State National Open. The two-day event begins on Friday at 6 p.m. and continues with action all day on Saturday, Jan. 29. All events will be held at Ashenfelter Track. The women are coming off a second-place finish at the Great Dane Classic in New York, N.Y. At the same event, junior Jermaine Lowery, of the men's team, set the Pitt all-time record in the 500M dash at 1:02.81.
WRESTLING
No. 21-ranked Pitt wrestling hosts EWL rival Bloomsburg on Sunday, Jan. 30 at Fitzgerald Field House. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Panthers enter the week with an 8-6 overall record and are 1-0 in conference action.
PANTHERS IN THE COMMUNITY
Pitt's football team will host Panther PAWS at Trees Hall on Saturday, Jan. 29. The two-hour program begins at 10 a.m.
