This Week In Panthers Athletics
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - This week the Panthers men and women's basketball teams will be in action. The women's basketball team looks to continue their tough defense with the start of Big East conference play. The men's basketball team will host the SEC/Big East Invitational at the CONSOL Energy Center.
Panthers wrestling will host Kent State on Sunday and the track & field team will begin their indoor season at Kent State during a two-day event.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The No. 3 ranked Pitt men's basketball team hosts Delaware State on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at the Petersen Events Center. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. on ESPN3.com. Pitt will then play No. 11 ranked Tennessee in the DIRECTV SEC/Big East Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 11 at CONSOL Energy Center. Tipoff is at 3:15 p.m. on ESPN and ESPN-3D. The game is part of a one-day doubleheader which features Rutgers and Auburn in the first matchup. Tipoff for that game is at 12:30 p.m. at CONSOL Energy Center. Pitt is off to a perfect 9-0 start to a season for the eighth time in the last nine seasons. The Panthers lead the nation in rebound margin. Head Coach Jamie Dixon (197-54) needs just three more wins to become the second coach in school history to reach the 200-win plateau at Pitt.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Pitt's women's basketball team begins Big East play on Tuesday, Dec. 7, by entertaining DePaul in a 7 p.m. contest at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers will then travel to Valparaiso on Saturday, Dec. 11, for a 2:35 p.m. tip. Pitt is coming off a 66-30 victory over Mount St. Mary's, marking the fewest points scored by an opponent since 1981. Taneisha Harrison, Asia Logan and Leeza Burdgess all scored double figures.
WRESTLING
The No. 17 ranked Pitt wrestling team resumes action at Fitzgerald Field House on Sunday, Dec. 12, when the Panthers host Kent State at 2 p.m. The Panthers enter the weekend with a 4-3 dual record and are coming off an impressive showing at the Nittany Lion Open, on Sunday. Six wrestlers placed in total, including an all-Pitt final at the 197-pound division.
TRACK AND FIELD
The men's and women's track and field teams begin the 2010-11 indoor season on Friday, Dec. 10, at the Kent State Gala in Kent, Ohio. The two-day event begins Friday at 1 p.m. and continues on Saturday at 10 a.m. Pitt introduced its fans to the squad in its annual Blue-Gold meet this past weekend. Several freshmen had impressive finishes.
