This Week In Panther Athletics

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/PITT) -- All of the Pitt Panthers' winter teams will be in action this week.

The men's basketball team continues with Big East competition. They will travel to No. 22 Georgetown on Wednesday and then return home to face Seton Hall on Saturday and No. 4 Syracuse on Monday.

Meanwhile, the women's basketball team returns home after a Wednesday night game against Seton Hall. The women will face No. 12 Notre Dame on Saturday at 2 p.m. Any fan wearing a Panthers jersey will get into that game for just $1 in honor of Team/Youth/Community Day at the Petersen Events Center.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The No. 5 Pitt men's basketball team travels to No. 22/19 Georgetown for a Wednesday, Jan. 12 game at the Verizon Center. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. ET for a nationally televised ESPN telecast. Pitt then returns home for a Saturday, Jan. 15 contest against Seton Hall at 7 p.m. on ESPN Regional/FSN Pittsburgh. Pitt is coming off an 89-81 home win over Marquette, a contest which saw the Panthers set team season-highs for field goal percentage (60.0 percent) and 3-point field goal percentage (55.6 percent).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Pitt wraps up a four-game road swing in South Orange, N.J., facing BIG EAST foe Seton Hall on Wednesday, Jan. 12. Tip is set for 7 p.m. Pitt returns home to face No. 12 Notre Dame on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. as part of Team/Youth/Community Day at the Petersen Events Center. Any fan that wears any jersey will receive $1 admission to the game. Jan. 15 has also been designated a "Camper Reunion Day" and any former campers who wear their Agnus Berenato camp shirt receives free admission. The Panthers last dropped a 79-68 decision at Louisville on Sunday. Taneisha Harrison had 18 points and Shayla Scott pumped in her second double-double of the season (17 points, 11 rebounds) in the setback.

GYMNASTICS

The Pitt gymnastics program will host its annual 'Think Pink' meet at Fitzgerald Field House on Sunday, Jan. 16 against Michigan State at 1 p.m. to raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. Sponsorship for the event is at an all-time high and those in attendance will also be given the opportunity to contribute to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The Panthers are 1-0 on the season with a win over Ball State, last week, after scoring a 192.000. Pitt junior sensation Alicia Talucci won both the vault and beam, while freshman Brittney Harris claimed the bars title in her first-ever collegiate meet.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

The Pitt swimming and diving team travels to College Park, Md., for a two-day meet against Maryland, Penn State and Villanova beginning on Friday, Jan. 14. The women are coming off a 194-104 victory in the 'Backyard Brawl' and improved to 5-1 on the season. The men dropped a competitive 158-142 decision to West Virginia and are 2-4 on the year.

WRESTLING

The Pitt wrestling team begins EWL conference action on Friday, Jan. 14 at Lock Haven. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. Last season, the Panthers posted an undefeated 6-0 conference record en route to claiming their first-ever EWL Championship title. The team enters Friday with a 7-5 dual-match record after finishing 3-1 at the Pitt Duals on Sunday.

TRACK AND FIELD

The men's and women's track and field teams travel to State College, Pa. to compete in the PSU Northeast Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 15. The meet will mark the second of the season for the Panthers, after notching a combined 28 Big East qualifying marks at the Kent State Gala in December.

PANTHERS IN THE COMMUNITY

Pitt's softball team will host the first Panther PAWS program of the semester on Saturday, Jan. 15.
