Thieves Steal Purse, Credit Cards Belonging To Woman Helping Less Fortunate
MOUNT PLEASANT (KDKA) -- Police are looking for four suspects after a woman's purse and credit cards were stolen at a Westmoreland County Walmart while she was trying to collect donations for a food drive.
Kay Rumbaugh was recently handing out lists of things needed for Connellsville Ministries Food Drive at the Walmart in Mount Pleasant.
Officials say she set her purse down and left it unattended for a few minutes.
"I started checking… my purse. I just couldn't believe I didn't have it on me," said Rumbaugh.
Surveillance video cameras caught a man and a woman who rolled their cart up and took off with the purse. The man was average height and wore a red jacket and orange hat. The woman was slender and wore black clothing.
"I got physically ill," said Rumbaugh. "I thought I was going to pass out."
Everything Rumbaugh had in the purse was gone, including money for the hungry.
"It's devastating," she said. "My car keys, my phone, my credit card, the money. I had the extra money with me. I had $400."
It got worse.
The purse thieves took the cash, but left the credit cards in the parking lot. That's where two men apparently grabbed them. They went on a spending spree at a tractor supply store and a CoGo's.
A devout Christian, Rumbaugh can only think.
"I don't know what they needed it for, but if they needed it, we could have given them help," she said.
Anyone with information on the four suspects is asked to call Pennsylvania State Police.
Rumbaugh says she'll forgive the alleged thieves; however, she says justice still needs to be served.
