Tenants Frustrated With Deplorable Conditions At Local Apartment
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The damage is extensive at an apartment on the North Side and the tenants say they've gotten nowhere with building management, but now the health department is stepping in.
Anthony Jamison's bed used to sit where a pile of debris now lies on the ground.
Fortunately for him, he moved the bed when a leak started. Then, the ceiling collapsed.
"I heard a very loud crack and I opened my eyes – not even out of the bed yet – and ceiling proceeded to just cave in," said Jamison.
Water, possibly sewage has been leaking from the bathroom above. But Jamison claims that the management company, PGH Capital Management, hasn't done a thing about it for weeks.
"It happened three weeks ago," said Jamison. "They claimed that they would have someone come out. Other than that, they haven't told me anything."
The owner of the management company, Dov Ratchkauskas, is also under federal indictment for mortgage fraud.
Just last December, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Allegheny County Health Department closed another one of his properties claiming it was unfit for habitation.
Jamison likes his apartment. He just can't live with a collapsed and dripping ceiling.
"It's a perfect spot, especially with the location of my work. I can ride a bike," said Jamison.
The Allegheny County Health Department is set to come out and check out the situation.
KDKA's Paul Martino contacted PGH Capital Management. They promised to call back, but so far there's been no response.
