Tenants Forced To Leave Pitcairn Apartment Building
PITCAIRN (KDKA) -- An apartment house, which has been a longtime fixture on Broadway Boulevard in Pitcairn, was ordered closed for safety reasons Thursday.
Pitcairn Mayor John McCreary said the Young Hotel, a three-story building, was inspected and found to have a defective fire alarm system as well as unsafe fire escapes and faulty wiring.
A hearing is scheduled Friday morning in Common Pleas Court to determine the future of the building.

At least 30 tenants were given less than an hour to leave the building and many found themselves scurrying to find a place to stay for the night.
Tim Lemley said he is from California and just came home from his job when he was given 30 minutes to go.
Donald Young, Sr., the father of the owner of the apartment complex, said he can understand why tenants were so angry.
He said some of them had lived in the building for decades.
McCreary said the borough of Pitcairn acted as quickly as it could with the help of the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office.
