Teens Steal Car, Crash Down Embankment During High-Speed Chase
EAST HUNTINGDON (KDKA) -- Three teens are in serious trouble after stealing a car and going for a joy ride in Westmoreland County.
The car belonged to a grandparent of one of the teenagers.
The teens were driving on Route 31 in Mount Pleasant when they went straight in a turning lane at the Braddock Avenue intersection and nearly hit a truck.
Police tried to pull over the teens. They slowed down, but then slammed on the gas and took off.
They led police on a high speed chase for several miles on Route 119 reaching speeds of up to 80 miles per hour.
They exited at Westec Drive and slammed through a guardrail and tumbled down an embankment.
The teens were walking around at the scene. Two were taken to Pittsburgh hospitals; the third was taken to Westmoreland Hospital.
The teens are not old enough to have drivers' licenses.
They are not being identified because they are under 18.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor.
