Teen Charged In Double Fatal Crash On I-79
NORTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A teenager from Bridgeville is now facing a number of charges including homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence in connection with a deadly crash on Interstate 79 in Washington County that killed two men in February.
Brothers Nickolas and Alex Mercolini were heading north on I-79 near the Racetrack Road exit with their wives when police say an SUV driver by Stormy Hunter, 18, hit their car, forcing it off the road.
The Pontiac Vibe that the Mercolinis were riding in began to roll over and both men were thrown from the vehicle. Catherine Mercolini, 57, and Linda Mercolini, 64, were also injured in the accident that killed their husbands. Neither Hunter, not her 17-year-old passenger suffered any injuries in the crash.
Today officials arraigned Hunter on 18 charges, including two counts of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, two counts of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, homicide by vehicle, DUI, five counts of recklessly endangering another person, and related charges.
Hunter is scheduled to face a preliminary hearing next week.
