Teen Accused Of Shooting 7-Year-Old Surrenders
MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A 16-year-old accused of shooting a young boy in Fayette County has surrendered to authorities.
Deago Eddings, accompanied by his mother and his defense attorney Blaine Jones, turned himself in to Pennsylvania State Police at the Moon Township barracks at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday.
"He learned that he has an arrest warrant. He wants to do the right thing and turn himself in," Jones said. "We're not running from any charges. Deago is a very young man and he wants to do the right thing and that's why we're here today."
Eddings is facing several charges, including attempted homicide and aggravated assault, after he allegedly shot 7-year-old Ammar-e Williams in the woods near the Hunter's Ridge Housing Complex in Redstone Township on July 3.
Eddings was tearful, but did not speak when he arrived at state police barracks.
"We just ask that the public reserve judgment and to allow things to play out, allow things to run its course," Jones said. "We'll get all the evidence, we'll get discovery and we'll properly prepare for what we have to prepare for with respect to the case."
Eddings will be taken back to Fayette County where he will be arraigned.
Meantime, police say Ammar-e Williams is still in stable condition at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W. Va.
According to the criminal complaint, Williams and Eddings were playing wrestling when the younger boy said, "You don't even have a gun."
The complaint said Eddings responded by taking a silver or grey firearm from his bag and said, "This is what I have," cocked the gun and fired one shot, hitting the boy.
