'Take A Shot At Changing The World' Contest
Today is the anniversary of one of the proudest moments in Pittsburgh's history its impact is still felt today.
On this date in 1954, the first mass inoculation of children against polio began here.
The Salk vaccine proved to be a huge success, transforming polio from a disease that crippled thousands of people, to one most people rarely think about today.
In honor of the historic event, a contest called "Take a Shot at Changing the World" is being held.
Local middle and high school students can submit videos on the battle against polio.
The winner gets a $5,000 prize.
The deadline to submit entries is March 31.
