Homeowner's Pet Stabbed During Apparent Break-In In McKees Rocks
McKEES ROCKS (KDKA) — Police are investigating an apparent break-in at a local home and the stabbing of the homeowner's pet, which put a neighborhood on lock down and sent the SWAT team to McKees Rocks Saturday.
After a swift response by the SWAT team, the search continues for the intruder who broke into the Mckees Rocks home and stabbed the homeowner's pet boxer.
According to officials at the scene, the homeowner returned to his home at 1350 Chartiers Avenue Extension Saturday afternoon to find his door kicked in.
When police arrived, they found a large amount of blood on the floor. That's when they discovered the dog had been brutally stabbed.
Officers heard activity on the second floor and called in the SWAT team, thinking the assailant might still be inside.
The man is a gun collector and there were several firearms and ammunition in the home. The team surrounded the house and put the neighborhood on lockdown.
After using several flash-bang grenades to try to flush out a potential suspect, they breached the second floor and found it empty.
McKees Rocks Police Chief Robert Cifrulak told KDKA-TV's Kym Gable, "This is certainly not an average call, something like this."
The homeowner declined an on-camera interview, but he did say the boxer underwent emergency surgery and is still alive.
There was also a pit bull inside that was not harmed.
