Hours-long SWAT standoff in Pleasant Hills leaves neighbors on edge
PLEASANT HILLS, Pa. (KDKA) — An hours-long SWAT standoff in Pleasant Hills ended Monday night with a man in custody.
Officials said police responded to a home on Audrey Drive around 3 p.m. on Monday. Police surrounded the home and blocked off the surrounding area, and the standoff ensued.
The man surrendered to the police just before 8 p.m. Sources told KDKA-TV officers were trying to get a 43-year-old man from Baldwin out of the home. Sources said the suspect's mother lives at the residence.
No one else was in the home at the time of the standoff, but the man was wanted on charges filed over the weekend, sources added. He was charged with terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of children, simple assault and harassment. Sources said the man was accused of threatening to kill his wife over the weekend. Court records show the couple is going through a divorce.
Police were communicating with the man during the standoff.
"Very nervous, very scared because we're getting very little communication," neighbor Tracey Arthrell said during the standoff. "And if there is crossfire, that can be very dangerous and people can't even get into their homes."
The standoff kept the neighborhood on edge all day.
"People are nervous," neighbor Tony Balistreri said. "They want it to end. ... Police were doing their job."
It is unclear if the man will face more charges in connection with the standoff. He was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated.
