SUV Strikes Parked Car, Crashes Into Mount Washington Home
MOUNT WASHINGTON (KDKA) - A woman faces charges after police say she slammed her SUV into a house early Thursday morning in Mt. Washington.
The SUV hit a parked car and a house along Boggs Avenue near the intersection with Arion Street around 12:40 a.m.
The vehicle hit the house with such force, that it cracked the front brick wall.
"The whole wall has to be replaced. All the brick has to come off the door. The inside wall is caved in," Dave Reynolds said.
According to police, a 48-year-old woman was behind the wheel.
After hitting a parked car and the house, she backed up and took off, leaving the front bumper of the vehicle behind. Reynolds' parents were asleep inside the house at the time.
It took police nearly two hours to track down the driver. Police said they followed leaking fluid marks from her SUV to track her down.
As it turns out, she lives in the area and officers said they noticed the smell of alcohol on her breath. However, they cannot charge her with DUI because it took too long to find her, nor can they prove she was behind the wheel of the vehicle because it's all circumstantial evidence.
The name of the driver has not been released, but she could face two counts of hit-and-run.
No one inside the house was hurt. The house did sustain some major damage to the bricks around the front door. The porch was also heavily damaged.
