Suspicious Package Found In Ross Township
ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police, the Allegheny County Bomb Squad and postal service investigators were called to a Ross Township home after a suspicious item was found in a package.
The incident happened on Evergreen Road and Peoples Plank Road Monday evening.
According to the Ross Township Police, the package came to the resident from a friend. However, it looked like it had been torn open and taped back together.
Inside, police say were Christmas presents and an item with "PVC pipe bolted together with a long wire extending out from the center of the connected pipes."
After being called to the home, investigator say they determined that the "device was not an explosive, nor was it meant to appear as one."
Officials with the Postal Inspectors say two packages, including the one that came to the Ross Township resident, had ripped open during handling and employees mistakenly returned the item to the wrong box.
