Suspicious Item Belonged To Homeless Person
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A suspicious item found near the U.S. Steel Tower in downtown Pittsburgh belonged to a homeless person.
Pittsburgh police shut down the ramp to the Veterans Bridge in addition to the Sixth and Seventh Avenue exits into downtown while the bomb squad investigated.
Additionally, part of the U.S. Steel building was evacuated.
The package was found in the loading dock behind the tower.
"USX security called Pittsburgh police about a suspicious package on the side of their building," Pittsburgh Police Lt. Robert Roth said.
"Zone 2 officers arrived. They also deemed it suspicious. At that time we secured the area, set up a perimeter and called the bomb squad in.
"The bomb squad arrived on the scene. After we rendered safe procedures, they determined it was just a homeless person's belongings."
The streets have now been reopened and the scene is returning to normal.
