7-Eleven Owner Fires Shots At Masked Men
TURTLE CREEK (KDKA) -- Police continue searching for suspects following an attempted armed robbery at a convenience store in Turtle Creek overnight.
Authorities say two men entered the 7-Eleven in the 400-block of James Street around 3 a.m.
"The suspects came through the door, the clerk's there and the owner of the store is also there, which they don't see," said Chief Dale Kareer, of the Turtle Creek Police Department. "They point the gun at the clerk, and the other gentleman, I believe, fires a couple rounds at the suspect with the gun and they flee."
Police say they believe the owner fired two shots in the direction of the two suspects who then ran from the scene.
"If he had a gun pointed at him and he felt threatened, which I'm sure he did, but I haven't seen any type of video and I don't have that much information to see if there was a right or a wrong, but that's how it is right now," Chief Kareer said Thursday morning.
Officers from Turtle Creek, Monroeville and Pitcarin as well as K-9 units searched the area, but no one was found. Police say they did recover a shotgun, which they believe was left by one of the suspects, along with a shoe.
Surveillance video was collected as well, and that will be examined by Allegheny County Police who are assisting in the investigation.
According to police, this is the second attempted robbery at the convenience store in less than a week. The first happened over the weekend when two men entered the store in masks.
Meanwhile, a North Braddock police officer had to be taken to the hospital after he was in an accident while responding to the robbery.
The accident happened in the 1300-block of Braddock Avenue. Officials say the officer's injuries were non-life-threatening and the driver of the other vehicle was not hurt.
