Suspects Accused Of Stealing Puppy Caught On Video
HAMPTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police in Hampton Township are asking for help from the public in identifying a man and a woman accused of stealing a Pomeranian puppy from a local pet shop.
The incident happened over the weekend at the Seahorse Pet Store at 4906 Route 8 around 2:15 p.m. on April 27.
"There was a $700 Pomeranian puppy that was taken from the store," says Detective Robert Kirsopp, of the Hampton Townhip Police.
The suspects are described as a white female with red hair who had on a white coat and a white man who was wearing dark pants and a blue shirt.
"They do a wrap around the store," says shop owner Heather Mason. "They go across our counter - and look at the Chihuahua puppies we have out front."
Clerks were swamped with customers at the time.
While the woman moves back to the dog room, her partner averts another security camera to avoid detection. Then the woman opens the Pomeranian's cage - stuffing the fluffy puppy into her purse.
"I'm sure the puppy was probably terrified - not knowing where it's going - being shoved in a purse," said Mason.
According to investigators, the man was spotted adjusting a non-working video camera.
Police are also looking to talk to two people who came into the store just after the suspects to determine if they witnessed anything.
