Suspected Shooter In North Side Murder Caught
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police have arrested the man accused of shooting two people, killing one, in the North Side more than a week ago.
Friday night around 6 p.m., they found 41-year-old Lawrence Brent Simmons, also known as "Red," of Bellevue.
He is charged with Criminal Homicide.
The shooting Dec. 7 happened around 8 p.m. in an apartment in the 2000-block of Rhine Street.
Officers arrived at the apartment, responding to a call about a shooting when they found 38-year-old Terry James a 26-year-old female had both been shot.
James was shot in the torso and died at the scene.
The woman was shot in the arm and pistol whipped in the head.
Police say Simmons forced his way into the apartment with two black males and demanded money from the two victims, before shooting both, killing James.
"It seems as though three gentlemen came to the door," Pittsburgh Police Lt. Michael Piasecki said after the shooting. "When they answered the door, they kind of forced their way in, demanded money and unfortunately shot the gentleman and shot the woman too."
Police say the three men were all armed with guns.
Simmons is being held at the Allegheny County Jail.
