Suspect To Stand Trial In Fatal Hill District Bar Shooting
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A North Braddock man will stand trial for the murder of a known gang member.
Jay Morrison, 37, waived his preliminary hearing this morning.
He is accused of killing 40-year-old Harold Cabbagestalk in September.
Morrison is also facing a gun charge.
Police say Morrison and Cabbagestalk had gone to Flamino's Bar on Wylie Ave in the Hill District to watch a Steelers game, but at some point began to argue.
They got into a physical altercation, which eventually lead to Morrison shooting Cabbagestalk eight times.
Cabbagestalk died the next day at UPMC Mercy.
Morrison was arrested a week later at a bar in Homestead.
Prosecutors say surveillance video from Flamingo's Bar shows the two men arguing. Defense attorney Owen Seman advised his client to waive the hearing to keep the video from being played. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to allow the defense to view the video.
Seman says Cabbagestalk is a very dangerous man. He believes the video may show that Cabbagestalk was the aggressor.
Cabbagestalk was a known member of the Hazlewood Mob street gang. He himself had been charged with murder twice in the '90s, but was never convicted.
Morrison will be back in court later this month for a formal arraignment. He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail without bond.
